Camp d'internement de Gurs

This concentration camp was one of the largest in France, between 1939 and 1944, more than 60,000 men, women and children were incarcerated : first republican Spanish refugees fleeing the victory of Franco, and the fighters belonging to the International Brigade, then at the time of the German occupation in June 1940, the "stateless" Germans and Austrians and French "politicians", communist militants, and foreign Jews, interned due to the anti-semitic laws of Vichy, gypsies, etc. Most of the 26,000 Jews in the camp were exterminated in Auschwitz.
